The PS5 Pro is Sony’s next big thing for the gaming world. The original PS5 is starting to feel a bit outdated, and it’s not just me saying that. Some tests show that the PS5 struggles with new games like «Black Myth: Wukong». But hey, good news, PlayStation worked on a new fix. The question is, is the PS5 Pro really worth $700 in the long run? Let’s find out.
So, they’ve announced some upgrades like a bigger GPU with more Teraflops, higher bandwidth, and more VRAM and compute units. This will make Ray Tracing management better and give a more stable gaming experience. In their video, they talked about «Advanced Ray Tracing,» but that’s not really a thing. I think they’re just using that for marketing purposes, probably to highlight the improvements they’ve made to run this technology better on the console.
They’re not adding AI to the PS5 Pro as they mentioned in the video to make the gaming experience better. Instead, they’re putting in a small piece of hardware to handle machine learning algorithms for processing photograms. This tech, called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), is meant to improve FPS and image quality when playing demanding games in certain situations. It’s not as powerful as DLSS and XeSS, but it’s better than AMD FSR.

So, in the video, they showed during their presentation, it’s pretty clear that games like «The Last of Us 2» have better FPS management, more detailed long-distance scenery, and overall better image quality. But it did take them quite a few years to come up with this hardware that is nothing new, and the price is pretty steep.
Is this new product a must-have for all gamers, or is it just another option in the market? PlayStation is making this move because the gaming market is evolving rapidly, new technologies are emerging, and developers are taking full advantage of this. This isn’t new, it happened with the PS4, and now the PS5 hardware seems to be falling behind as well. Some are saying that Play Station can’t afford to miss out on GTA 6, so they’re releasing a console tailored for this highly anticipated game.

I applaud their marketing strategy because some people will probably buy it. It’s a great option for console fans who don’t want to wait for GTA 6 to come out on other platforms. Plus, you’ll get a better gaming experience with the games you already play. Just keep in mind that these new features will only work with games that can support these technical improvements.
The bad news is that they are still using an old AMD GPU architecture that won’t allow users to experience those attributes that PC gamers enjoy as the tensor and ray tracing cores, and software miracles like Path tracing, but these would require changes that they might not be ready to make. On the bright side, it’s a better console than the Xbox Series X and will be the only one powerful enough to run GTA 6 properly in its first year.
I don’t get why console companies keep using AMD tech that’s not as good as Nvidia’s, I hope Xbox makes a change on this matter, it would be a big step. If you’re thinking about buying it, you can wait until November 7. But if you’re thinking like me, it’s better to get a gaming PC, which will be much more worth its price. Or just stick with your regular PS5 which will bring you as much joy as the PS5 Pro would do. It seems like the PC industry is moving forward like crazy while consoles refuse to step up their game.
